In the past couple of months the QuickServe Online website has experienced an unusually high amount of downtime. We would like
to give you an update on what has been going on, why we've had problems and improvement plans that are in progress.
In September we kicked off a multi-phased project to upgrade all of our database servers, webservers and policy servers that
support QuickServe Online. It was time to move to bigger faster machines that would increase website capacity to support the
ever growing traffic to this website. We completed the upgrade of the database servers to production in September. The next
step is the development, testing and production launch of new webservers. We expect to launch the new webservers to production
in January / February.
We have been experiencing some growing pains that have caused intermittent downtime in the last two months. There are basically
two high level causes for the recent downtimes we have experienced:
- Start up problems with the new Oracle cluster
- Intermittent slowness and problems with webservers due to the heavy traffic load.
We're happy to report that usage of QuickServe Online has tripled in the last 2 years. We now have over 70,000 users worldwide
that are hitting the site over 1.2 million times a day. The growth in the last 9 months has been far greater than anticipated.
So what are we doing to fix the performance problems?
We are now in the process of increasing our webserver capacity to handle the heavier traffic until our January webserver upgrade.
There are several different improvements we are making to help performance, including adding an additional webserver.
Our QuickServe Online users are our number one priority. Our mission is to provide 98% uptime and best in class response time
so that you can access our information quickly and easily, 24/7. We apologize for the inconvenience the QSOL issues have caused
you and your business. We have very capable people on the job who are working very hard to bring you the best website performance
possible. Every day.
We thank you for your business and for your support.
Best regards,
The Cummins QuickServe Online Team
